Acting comptroller named to position permanently

The Carroll County commissioners appointed Robert Burk of Westminster yesterday as county comptroller. He has held the job on an acting basis since the November retirement of longtime Comptroller Eugene Curfman.

Burk, 35, was previously deputy comptroller. A graduate of Westminster High School, he has a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., and has been a certified public accountant since 1992.

Since joining the county government in 1998, Burk has participated in Carroll's credit rating and bond sale processes, managed revenue and tax collection, and served as accountant and financial system administrator.

His salary will be $80,000.
