NANCY MURRAY SLAUGHTER died on August 4, 2005, after a long illness. Nancy was born on February 27, 1931 in Wilmington, DE. She was the daughter of William Grier Murray and Maude Reynolds Murray of Wilmington. Nancy is a descendant of the Reynolds family, one of William Penn's original grantees of the Nottingham Lots in Cecil County, MD. Nancy was a 1949 graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School in Wilmington and attended Goldey-Beacom College and the University of Delaware. In 1957 she married the late Richard Franklin Slaughter, III of Baltimore. They had three sons: Richard Franklin Slaughter, IV, David Murray Slaughter and William Grier Slaughter. After moving to Baltimore, Nancy taught Sunday school at the Roland Park Presbyterian Church. She served as the Director of Volunteers for the Junior League and was on the Women's Board of Children's Hospital. In 1971 Nancy returned to work to support her family. She began working for Williams & Wilkins/Waverly Press as copy editor. After 20 years of service, she retired in 1991 as the Director of Journal Management. Nancy loved to travel with her sister Adeline Murray. She was an avid bird watcher, a pastime she developed while spending time at her family's farm in Potter County, Pennsylvania. She also enjoyed playing bridge and loved to cook. In addition to her sons and sister, Nancy is survived by two brothers, William Grier Murray of Newark, DE and Reynolds Murray of Ocean View, DE. Her sister Betty Jane Murray died in 1997. Nancy loved her six grandchildren; Natalie, Emily, Charlotte, Grier, Nancy and Cecilia of Baltimore. Services will be held at the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church, 1195 Firetower Rd., Colora, MD 21917 on Wednesday, August 10 at 11:00. Burial will be in adjoining church cemetery.
