The Maryland Transportation Authority Police are looking for witnesses to a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred about 5:30 a.m. yesterday on northbound Interstate 895 near the entrance ramp from Potee Street in Brooklyn. An unidentified man was struck and killed, according to Kelly Melhem, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Police are looking for a 1993 or 1994 Toyota Camry with front-end damage on the passenger side and a missing turn signal and headlight. The front windshield might also be damaged.

Melhem said the medical examiner's office is hoping to identify the victim through fingerprints.

Before the crash, Transportation Authority Police received reports about a pedestrian on southbound I-895. Melhem said the individual was "attempting to flag down vehicles."

Responding to those reports, officers found the victim had crossed the concrete barrier onto the northbound lanes, where he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Part of northbound I-895 was closed until about 8:15 a.m.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle to call them at 410-537-1200.
