Barbara Evans: Barbara Evans is a former English teacher, United Press International reporter and freelance writer. She has written for various newspapers and magazines in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York. In Pittsburgh and the Virgin Islands, she has worked as a consultant, university administrator and a director of several programs designed to expose students of color to the health sciences, engineering and computer fields. With her story about churches economically empowering their congregations, Evans is bridging her love of writing and spirituality. She also writes about the versatility of a traffic engineer who works as an enterprising beer vendor at Ravens and Orioles games.

John Gourdin: John Gourdin, 58, has been a Civil War re-enactor for about eight years. A native of South Carolina, he now lives in Severn. Gourdin discovered a passion for the past after researching his family tree. His discovery led him to write a book about his family lineage. In his First Person essay, he gives us a glimpse of who he is and how re-enacting has changed his life.

Glenn McNatt: Glenn McNatt has been The Sun's art critic since 1999. From 1995 to 1999, he was The Sun's arts columnist, and from 1985 to 1995, he served as an editorial writer, columnist and occasional Op-Ed page editor for The Sun and The Evening Sun. Before coming to Baltimore, McNatt was a writer and editor for Time-Life Books and a reporter for Time magazine. He began his career as a teacher of literature and sociology at Brandeis University and Wellesley College. For this issue of UniSun, he shares his passion for the visual arts by profiling Carl Clark, a photographer who collects art.

Holly Shiver: Holly Shiver is a recent graduate of Morgan State University and former intern at The Sun. She graduated magna cum laude and received her bachelor of arts degree in communications studies this year. She plans to go to graduate school and is considering various programs. Shiver enjoys writing about people's lives. She discovered pageantry as the writer for an article on the Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant.
