Jeannette E. Bender, 84, homemaker, sports fan

Jeannette E. Bender, a homemaker and sports fan, died of a heart attack July 29 at her Arnold home. She was 84.

Born in Baltimore and raised on Wilkens Avenue, the former Jeanette Emma Hill was a graduate of Southern High School.

A homemaker, she lived in South Baltimore before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in the 1970s. Since 1980, she had lived in Arnold.

She was an Orioles fan, enjoyed bowling and had volunteered at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Her husband of 31 years, Delroy Francis McCleary Bender, a mechanic, died in 1971.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.

Surviving are three sons, Howard W. Bender of Deale, Ronald D. Bender of Catonsville and Michael B. Bender of Arbutus; a daughter, Phyllis A. Schwinger-Hoffman of Arnold; a brother, Ronald Hill of Gettysburg, Pa.; a sister, Beverly Ballzanna of Fallston; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Another son, Gary D. Bender, died in 1966.
