Art of the sea

Emily Mills' glasswork is bright, colorful and on display this month at ARTFX in Annapolis. The gallery is hosting a reception for her and her artwork on Sunday. While many of Mills' pieces from past collections feature a sea theme, she has added glass pendants strung with shells and fused shark teeth and other aquatic flotsam and jetsam to her work for this year's debut. Mills will also conduct a demonstration of her technique Aug. 18.

Artists' homecoming

In honor of its 10th anniversary, the Artists' Gallery in Columbia has invited artists Maureen Bannon and Rhona Schonwald to present their work along with 20 other artists. The two are among the gallery's founding artists. The gallery will host a reception tomorrow evening. The exhibit runs through Aug. 26. Bannon works mainly in expressionist watercolors and oil paints, and Schonwald favors abstracts in oil paints. The display will also feature examples of the artists' photography, fired copper sculpture, pastel painting and pottery.
