Angels update

The Angels remain the leaders in the American League West despite losing six of their past seven games. They have a one-game lead over the surging Athletics after having an 8 1/2 -game cushion on July 6. In their last series, the Angels took the first game in New York against the Yankees, but then lost the next two as their usually reliable bullpen collapsed. The Angels' bullpen, which has led the AL in ERA the past three seasons, has given up nine earned runs in the past 5 2/3 innings. Before Sunday's late-game meltdown, the Angels were 51-2 when leading after eight innings. Before the Yankees series, the Angels' offense had scored just four runs in their previous 50 innings. Against the Yankees, Vladimir Guerrero showed signs of breaking out of a 5-for-50 slump.
