She returned to work at Alex. Brown in the early 1990s after raising her four daughters and in 1999 became an administrative assistant in Legg Mason's legal department. For the past two years, she had worked for Legg Mason Capital Management.

"She was a steady-Eddie and always very dependable. Her daughters told me that she had reconnected with her childhood sweetheart and was loving life," said Drew J. Bowden, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Legg Mason Capital Management.

Mrs. Brooks had studied architecture and interior design, and enjoyed home decorating, cooking, entertaining and travel.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 5500 York Road, Govans.

Surviving are her four daughters, Kathleen T. McClernan of Reisterstown, Allyson C. Curley of Abingdon, Maureen E. "Molly" Brooks of Santa Fe, N.M., and Jill C. Brooks of Baltimore; a sister, Teresa "Terry" Wieczorek of Towson; two grandchildren; and her companion, James E. Greenwood of Timonium.
