Boating safety course to be offered in August

The Friends of the Anne Arundel Trails will hold a three-part Maryland Basic Boating Safety Course from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 8, 12 and 15 at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company on Ritchie Highway.

The class provides an overview of the rules and fundamentals of safe boating and equipment.

Any person born after July 1, 1972, is required to have a certificate of boating safety education before operating a documented boat on Maryland waters.

Children 10 and older can take the class. The cost is $20.

BWI coupon cuts rate of daily parking by $2

Baltimore/Washington International Airport is providing customers with the opportunity to reduce parking charges in the BWI daily garage by $2 a day.

Coupons are available on the airport's Web site, www.bwiair, that cut the cost of parking in the daily garage from $10 to $8 a day.

Glen Burnie Toastmasters announces new officers

The Glen Burnie Toastmasters club recently elected Kathy H. Lipin as president for 2005-2006.

Other officers are: Cathy Kellenbenz, vice president of education; Tim Kuhn, vice president for membership; Jerry Dotter- weich, vice president for public relations; Steve Harrison, secretary; Josi Osborn, treasurer; and Fred Kaminsky, sergeant at arms.

Toastmasters provides communications and leadership development to its members. The club meets at 7 p.m. two Tuesdays of the month at the North County Library.

Parcel & Office Solutions opens in Piney Orchard

Parcel & Office Solutions recently opened in Piney Orchard Marketplace, next to Food Lion.

The store offers UPS, DHL, FedEx and the United States Postal Service domestic and international shipping. Other services, including boxes and shipping supplies; office solutions, such as mail box rental with a street address instead of a post office box number; color copying and printing; fax services; passport photos and expedite service; notary; signs, banners, business cards and stationary also are available.

The store also accepts bill payments.

Guerrero general manager at Hampton Inn & Suites

Christopher D. Guerrero has been named general manager at Hampton Inn & Suites, Arundel Mills/BWI in Hanover.

Guerrero earned certified hotel administrator credentials from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute in Orlando, Fla.

Skye Hospitality LLC is the owner and operator of the hotel.

MIE Properties fills Bestgate Road building

MIE Properties has fully leased its space at 888 Bestgate Road, a four-story, 120,000- square-foot Class A office building in the Annapolis Commerce Park.

As of tomorrow, the final tenant will be Timberlake Homes Inc., which has created and developed communities in and around Maryland since the 1960s.

Other tenants include: Ferris, Baker, Watts Inc.; McNamee, Hosea, Jernigan, Kim, Greenan & Walker, P.A.; Watkins, Meegan, Drury and Co.; and CNR Insurance Inc.

Carrol's Creek Cafe names banquet manager

Carrol's Creek Cafe recently appointed Brittanie Oakley, a six-year employee, as the new banquet manager.

Oakley is a graduate of the University of Maryland and a longtime resident of Annapolis.

The restaurant recently added a private waterfront banquet room that is in demand for breakfast meetings, rehearsal dinners and receptions.

Carrol's Creek Cafe celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2003. The restaurant was completely renovated last year and has received awards for its cream of crab soup and Sunday brunch.
