Children's programs at central library

The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will offer "Incredible Insects," a program for children ages 4 to 8 led by a naturalist from Patuxent Research Refuge, at 2 p.m. Aug. 9. Registration is to begin Tuesday.

Children's programs at the central library include "Play Partners," for infants and toddlers to 23 months, offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesdays, this week through Aug. 17.

"Super Saturdays," a program of stories and songs for small groups and families of preschool through early elementary-age children, is offered at 10 a.m. Saturdays through Aug. 20. Registration is not required.

Teen books: Classics for Teens, a book club for those ages 12 and older at the central library, will discuss The Time Machine, by H.G. Wells, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The group reads and discusses short classics. Registration is not needed. The library is at 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway. 410-313-7860.

Pool parties: Wilde Lake Community Association will offer a family pool party in each of the village's neighborhoods. The next party will be held Wednesday at Faulkner Ridge Pool; the last will be held Aug. 9 at Bryant Woods Pool. The parties will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will cost $3 a person, which includes swimming, pizza and a beverage. Tickets, available at Slayton House, must be purchased in advance. Children to age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The parties are for Wilde Lake residents only, but pool membership is not required. There are no rain dates. 410-730-3987.
