Scouting report: Rangers vs. O's

July 25, 2005|By Jeff Zrebiec

Rangers update

In their last trip to Camden Yards last August, the Rangers were embarrassed by the Orioles, losing all four games and getting outscored 30-10. That extended the Orioles' winning streak at home against Texas to nine. The Rangers have lost five straight after yesterday's 8-3 defeat to Oakland and find themselves 10 games behind the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West. It is by no fault of the Rangers' offense. Severna Park native Mark Teixeira, former Oriole David Dellucci, Michael Young, Alfonso Soriano and Hank Blalock are among the AL offensive leaders. The Rangers are hoping that James Baldwin, whom they picked up last week after the Orioles designated him for assignment, bolsters their pitching staff. He already has pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Only Kansas City and Tampa Bay have given up more earned runs than Texas. - Jeff Zrebiec
