Heart and Sole Stroll set for July 31 in Ellicott City

The Red Devils, an area nonprofit organization that provides funding for non-medical support services for women with breast cancer, will hold its third "Heart and Sole Stroll," a noncompetitive walk, at 10 a.m. July 31 at Centennial Lake in Ellicott City.

Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Tickets are $35 a person; $70 a family. Prizes and children's activities are planned. The first 500 walkers will receive Red Devil T-shirts.

The Red Devils was founded by the families of Ginny Worthington-Schardt and Jessica Cowling, two friends who died of breast cancer. The group takes its name from the chemotherapy drug, Adriamycin, sometimes referred to as the "red devil."

Mount Hebron High to hold cheerleading tryouts

Mount Hebron High School will hold JV and varsity cheerleading tryouts from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 15-18.

Card party barbecue to be held Friday

Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor a card party barbecue for those ages 55 and older from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center.

Groups of four are invited to play cards (bring them with you) and have lunch together. A light early morning buffet of breakfast buns, juice, coffee and tea is included.
