Bayhawks tonight

Pro Lacrosse

July 23, 2005|By Kate Crandall

Matchup: New Jersey Pride (1-7) vs. Bayhawks (8-0)

Site: Johnny Unitas Stadium, Towson University

Time: 7 p.m.

TV/Radio: Ch. 2 (11:35 p.m. tape delay); live on WJFK (1300 AM)

Outlook: The Bayhawks set a league record for margin of victory when these teams last played, on June 5, a 24-8 Baltimore win. Since then, the Pride has been Major League Lacrosse's worst team, ranked last in every offensive and defensive category; the Bayhawks are the six-team, two-division league's only unbeaten team. Pride faceoff man Peter Vlahakis (.568 win percentage) has stepped in admirably for an injured Andy Corno, winning 25 of 37 faceoffs during a 19-14 loss to Long Island last week, but the Bayhawks' Paul Cantabene's .608 winning percentage leads the league. The Bayhawks' Mikey Powell (30 points) will take on former Syracuse teammates now with New Jersey - goalie Jay Pfeifer and attackman Josh Coffman, acquired from the Rochester Rattlers two weeks ago. For Baltimore natives Kyle Harrison (Friends, Hopkins) and Walid Hajj (McDonogh, Georgetown), both with the Pride, tonight's game will be a homecoming.
