Wine Of The Week

July 20, 2005|By Michael Dresser

2004 Redcliffe Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand ($12). This is simply a sensational value in a dry white wine. Fuller-bodied than many New Zealand sauvignon blancs, it delivers flavors with an intensity born of ripeness, not the screeching edginess of many of its counterparts. It offers penetrating flavors of figs, herbs, pears, kiwi, lime and minerals. The finish is clean and persistent, and the wine is topped with a screw cap for convenience and prevention of spoilage. Serve with grilled seafood for maximum pleasure.
