Harry F. Koenig, 86, electrical inspector, veteran

Harry F. Koenig, a retired government inspector and World War II veteran, died of cancer Wednesday at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He was 86, and had been a resident of Lutherville for half a century.

Mr. Koenig was born in Baltimore and raised on Oliver Street. A graduate of city public schools, he served during World War II as a halftrack radio operator with the Army's 5th Armored Division in Europe.

After the war, Mr. Koenig became an electrical inspector for the Defense Department. In the early 1970s, he took a similar position with the Army Corps of Engineers, from which he retired in 1983.

Mr. Koenig was an avid traveler and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Towson.

Services were yesterday.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Ruth Esther Erat; a son, Dennis P. Koenig of Stewartstown, Pa.; a daughter, Katherine R. Hennessey of Stewartstown; and two grandchildren.
