George William Milburn, a retired lieutenant with the Baltimore City Fire Department and a veteran of World War II, died of Parkinson's disease Tuesday at his home in Lansdowne. He was 83.
A native of Glen Burnie, Mr. Milburn was a 1940 graduate of Glen Burnie High School. In 1947, he married Mabel Virginia Williams, who died in 2003.
Mr. Milburn served as a corporal in the Army during World War II. He was a firefighter in Baltimore from 1950 until his retirement in 1981, reaching the rank of lieutenant. He had a home built in Lansdowne and moved there in 1957.
A member of Lansdowne United Methodist Church, he enjoyed trips to Ocean City, Atlantic City, N.J., and the Charles Town racetrack. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing.
"He had a little boat," said his daughter Joyce Young of Lansdowne. "He was always down near the Bay Bridge."
A service was held Saturday.
In addition to his daughter, he is survived by another daughter, Sharon Simmons of Lansdowne; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
