Glenwood library plans `Wacky Wednesdays'

The Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, will present "Wacky Wednesdays," a series of summer activities with books, crafts and discussions for youngsters ages 11 and older.

"Stamping Up!" with stamping expert Kathy Bodine, is planned from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 3. Materials will be provided. Registration is to begin at the branch Wednesday.

"Soap Making," a workshop on making soap and bath salts, is planned from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 10. Materials will be provided. Registration is to begin July 27.

"Back to School Crafts," a workshop on making desk caddies and magazine files, decorating shoes or a bag, is to be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 17. Participants should take a canvas bag, shoestrings, or white canvas sneakers to decorate. Registration is to begin Aug. 3.

Lacrosse camps:

Glenelg Country School will offer summer lacrosse camps this month on the school's playing fields. An indoor sports facility is available in case of inclement weather. An evening camp for boys ages 6 to 12 will be offered from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow through Thursday. The cost is $125. A day camp for boys ages 11 to 18 will be offered July 25 to 29. The cost is $280 and includes lunch. Equipment rental is available for an additional $35. A discount is available for goalies. Sports camps:

River Hill High School Boosters offers summer sports camps to help young athletes improve their skills. More than 20 camps will be offered in various sports. The one-week camps will run through Aug. 12. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $115 a camp. Forms are available in the school office; or 410-313-7114.

Dogs and cats:

The Glenwood Library will present "Dental Care for Dogs and Cats" at 6 p.m. Tuesday. "Colic in the Horse" will be the topic at 7:30 p.m. The programs, led by staffers from the Animal Medical Hospital at Glenwood, is part of the "Glenwood Pet and Horse Care Series." Craft workshops:

The Glenwood library will offer "Bead It!" -- a chance to create bracelets, bookmarks, necklaces, shoelaces and other items with beads, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Participants should take shoelaces. "To Dye For," a workshop on tie-dyeing for youths and adults, ages 11 and older, will be offered from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 30. Participants should wear old clothes and can take as many as five white cotton items to dye. T-shifts, pillowcases and other items are welcome. Registration is required. 410-313-5577.

Lively discussions:

The Western Howard County Seniors Book Club, known for its lively discussions of contemporary fiction, will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville. The Amateur Marriage, by Anne Tyler, will be discussed at the next meeting. 410-313-5577.

Anniversary celebration:

Maryland Western Horse Association is making plans for its 50th anniversary celebration, to be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Howard County Fairgrounds. The afternoon will include children's activities, dancing and music provided by a disc jockey, food, displays and recognition of the organization's past presidents.
