Seniors offered information on Medicare program

The Harford County Office on Aging is holding a series of informational meetings to discuss the new Medicare Prescription Drug Program for senior citizens and those with disabilities who have Medicare coverage. The new program becomes effective in January.

Representatives from the Social Security Administration and Harford County Office on Aging's Senior Health Insurance Program will answer questions about eligibility, cost and benefits during two-hour sessions, and will be available for one-on-one counseling in filing for the benefit.

Meetings are scheduled from 2:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and July 28 at the Edgewood Senior Center, 1000 Gateway Road (410-612-1622), and from 10 a.m. to noon July 25 at the Aberdeen Senior Center, 7 Franklin St. (410-273-5666).

Participants sought for Christmas parade

The Bel Air Economic and Community Development Commission is soliciting participants for the town's Christmas parade, set for Dec. 4.

Examples of possible entries are floats, mobile units, antique cars, marching units and color guards.

The deadline for submissions is Nov. 4.

Annual Senior Olympics begins Aug. 27 in county

The Harford County Department of Parks & Recreation will sponsor the 10th Annual Senior Olympics - North Chesapeake Region from Aug. 27 through Sept. 17 at locations around the county.

The games are open to men and women in age groups from 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 80 and older.

Team competition, volleyball and 3-on-3 basketball are open to those ages 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and older. Individual, doubles and mixed doubles competition is open to everyone. There are no residency restrictions.

The Olympics offer events in aquatics, archery, basketball, billiards, bowling, cycling, disc golf, horseshoes, miniature golf, racquetball, table tennis, tennis, track and field, recreational walking, discus, football throw, high jump, running long jump, shot put, softball throw, standing long jump, triple jump and volleyball.

@SUBHEDWinters Run Golf Club to host senior tournament

The 30th Annual Senior Golf Tournament for Harford County residents ages 50 and older will be held Aug. 29 at the Winters Run Golf Club, off North Tollgate Road in Bel Air.

Registration is open through Aug. 15 and is limited to 100 golfers. The cost is $60 a person, and includes cart use, greens fees, lunch, a gift and awards.

Checks should be made payable to the Joppatowne Recreation Council and submitted, with an entry form, to Harford County Recreation Council, Mariner Point Park, 100 Kearney Drive, Joppa, MD 21085. There will be no refunds.
