Pond management seminar set July 28 in Clarksville

The Maryland Cooperative Extension will co-sponsor a seminar on pond management for nurseries and greenhouses from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 28 at Country View Nursery in Clarksville.

John Rich, Country View's general manager, will describe how the nursery uses its pond to irrigate.

J.G. Warfield of Soil Conservation will discuss how to build an irrigation pond for a nursery or greenhouse.

Other topics will include high-rate filters; choosing a pump; planting and controlling floating and submerged plants; controlling algae; and operation and maintenance of an irrigation system.

Participants will build a boat with cardboard and duct tape and have a boat race on the pond.

Registration is $25 and includes dinner. The deadline is July 22.
