Retirement community offers a Web site

Vantage House Life Care Retirement Community has launched a Web site that includes photos and stories of residents and a photo tour of the community, which did an $11 million renovation last year.

In Town Center, the not-for-profit retirement community includes 224 residential apartments and a health center for recuperative and emergency assistance or long-term nursing care.

Central library offering book club for young people

The Howard County Central Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will offer Classics for Teens, a new book club for those ages 12 and older.

The group will discuss The Red Badge of Courage, by Stephen Crane, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Parents and tots: Town Center Community Association's Parent and Tots Play Groups will begin a new session tomorrow, with a group for children ages 6 months to 4 years old. A group for children ages 2 and older is to meet Tuesday, and for children ages 6 to 24 months, Wednesday. Each group is limited to about 15 to facilitate interaction among the children. The eight-week sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon, ending the week of Aug. 29. Juice will be provided. The cost is $20 a child for Columbia residents; $22 for non-Columbia residents. Siblings can enroll for half-price. Early registration is encouraged. 410-730-4744.

Shabbat: The Parent Resource Place, a program of Jewish Family Services in Howard County, offers a Shabbat Circle, an informal, drop-in play group, and a parent-child Shabbat program, at 10 a.m. Fridays at Kahler Hall, 5440 Old Tucker Row in Harper's Choice Village Center. Shabbat Circle includes "Share and Compare," a parent discussion, on the first and third Fridays of each month. "Gentle Discipline" will be discussed this week. Finding completion: Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor a program about wholeness, "Honoring the Wholeness Within," for those ages 55 and older, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. July 19 at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. The workshop includes exercise and discussion. The cost is $5. Registration: 410- 313-7279.

Pool parties: Wilde Lake Community Association will offer a family pool party in each of the village's neighborhoods. The first will be held July 20 at Running Brook Pool; the next will be Aug. 3 at Faulkner Ridge Pool; and the last will be Aug. 9 at Bryant Woods Pool. The parties will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will cost $3 a person, which includes swimming, pizza and a beverage. Tickets, available at Slayton House, must be purchased in advance. Children to age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The parties are for Wilde Lake residents only, but pool membership is not required. There are no rain dates. 410-730-3987.
