Board of Education to hold its regular meeting Wednesday

The Carroll County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room 007 of the board offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster.

The regular meeting agenda will be posted on the school system's Web site at www.carroll

Meetings will be broadcast live on CETV, Channel 21 on Adelphia cable TV, and repeated at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sunday and July 21, and 9 a.m. Saturday.

Technology students create `Ready React' Web site

Students in the Carroll County Career and Technology Center's computer technology class have launched a Web site,

The "Ready React Respond: Community Connection" Web site is dedicated to educating citizens on emergency preparedness and hometown safety, including ways to prepare for disasters, and information on where to get help should a disaster occur and where citizens can lend a helping hand.

The students developed the Web site after receiving a Youth Ready to Respond grant from the Points of Light Foundation. The Carroll County school system, in partnership with Volunteer Carroll, was one of 10 organizations nationwide to receive the two-year, $50,000 grant.

Brendan Schlauch named student board member

Brendan J. Schlauch, a South Carroll High School senior, has been named the 2005-2006 student representative to the Carroll County Board of Education.

Throughout high school, Brendan has been active in the school and county student government associations. He is on South Carroll's It's Academic Team, Carroll Academic Challenge Team, Science Club, School Improvement Team, Accreditation for Growth Team and National Honor Society.

He also attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law during the fall of his junior year.
