Performing arts camp for kids set at Sykesville church

Lamplight Artists, a Christian artists' group, will present a weeklong performing arts camp for children at Friendship Baptist Church, 1391 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

The camp, for youngsters who have completed grades one through six, will run from July 31 through Aug. 5 and will include role playing, theater games, script-learning, vocal music, choreography and 35 minutes of Bible study each day. A performance is planned at 7 p.m. Aug. 5.

The camp, All About Kids Productions, is sponsored by the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware.

Orientation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 31; camp, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1-5. The cost is $95, to cover supplies and salaries for teachers. Children should take a lunch each day.

Bible camp to be held at Christ Lutheran

Christ Lutheran Church will offer a Bible camp from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through July 15 at Claret Hall, 6020 Daybreak Circle, in River Hill village.

The camp, Build on the Rock, is for children entering kindergarten through fifth grade and aims to help children find a solid foundation for their lives. It will include learning about building and hands-on building projects, as well as Bible stories, songs, skits and crafts.

St. Anthony's Shrine plans Catechist Connection

The Shrine of St. Anthony, 12290 Folly Quarter Road, near Glenelg, will offer Catechist Connection, a day of teaching and prayer for those interested in ministry, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 16.

Take a Bible and ask questions. The cost is $35, including lunch and materials.

New Christian school taking applications for 2005-2006

Augsburg Academy, a new Christian day school in Beltsville, is accepting applications for the 2005-2006 school year. There are limited openings in kindergarten and first grade. Additional grades will be added each year.

In celebration of the school's opening, pupils entering in August will receive a $2,000 scholarship for the first school year. The scholarships will be awarded regardless of financial need.

The academy is an extension of ministry at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, 11310 Montgomery Road.

`Repairing the World' is theme for Sunday

The theme for Journeys Community's 10 a.m. Sunday service will be "Repairing the World."

Journeys Community's Sunday services are held in the second-floor auditorium of Vantage House Life-Care Retirement Community, 5400 Vantage Point Road in Town Center in Columbia.

Lubavitch Center sponsoring a Sunday running group

The Lubavitch Center for Jewish Education is sponsoring a free Sunday morning running group, meeting weekly with Rabbi Hillel Baron.

The next run will be held at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the center, 770 Howes Lane, Columbia.

The group aims to boost spiritual and physical energy with readings from meditations of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and a three-mile run. The pace will be about 12 minutes a mile.

Christ Memorial offering summer Sunday school

Summer Sunday school classes are being offered for all ages at Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6410 Amherst Ave., Columbia.

Children in preschool through fifth grade can "Journey with Joshua" on an imaginary archaeological dig; middle and high school students are invited to help.

The church will also present a class for high school students and adults, using videos and a curriculum focused on the lives of two saints, Peter and Paul.

The programs will meet at 9 a.m. Sundays, through July 31. Registration is not required. Admission is free.

Support groups set for kids whose parents have split

The Faith Journeys Foundation Inc. of Ellicott City is offering support groups for children, ages 9 and older, whose parents have separated or divorced.

The next group will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, July 27 through Aug. 31, at Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive, Ellicott City.

A wrap-up session for parents is planned Aug. 31.

Parent Resource Place offering a Shabbat Circle

The Parent Resource Place, a program of Jewish Family Services in Howard County, offers Shabbat Circle, an informal, drop-in playgroup and parent-child Shabbat program, at 10 a.m. Fridays at Kahler Hall in Harper's Choice Village Center, Columbia.

Shabbat Circle includes "Share and Compare," a parent discussion, on the first and third Fridays. Stories, songs and a craft are offered on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

Admission is free, but registration is requested.
