Red Sox Update

Boston had lost five of seven games before beating the Texas Rangers the past two nights, both by 7-4 scores. Mike Timlin and Alan Embree picked up saves Tuesday night and last night, respectively, while closer Keith Foulke returned to Boston to have magnetic resonance imaging tests on both knees. Foulke, who's 5-5 with a 6.23 ERA, was put on the 15-day disabled list yesterday and will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The Red Sox have four starters in the All-Star Game: outfielders Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez, designated hitter David Ortiz and catcher Jason Varitek. Ramirez hit his 20th career grand slam Tuesday, passing Eddie Murray for second on the all-time list behind Lou Gehrig (23). Damon has a 22-game hitting streak. Curt Schilling, finishing up an injury rehabilitation assignment, was expected to start Saturday, but now will be used in the bullpen. The Red Sox didn't allow a run while sweeping a two-game series at Camden Yards in April. - Roch Kubatko
