Flicks from the Hill

Guests at the American Visionary Art Museum for the first installment of the Flicks from the Hill free outdoor film series tonight may be so captivated by the unusual venue that they won't notice Searching for Bobby Fischer flickering on the screen. An 11-foot golden hand extending from the side of the new Jim Rouse Visionary Center supports the 30-foot remote-controlled projection screen. The seating area on Federal Hill can accommodate a large crowd. The movie begins at 9 p.m.

Moviegoers can also play a giant game of chess on boards set up in the Tall Sculpture Barn near the seating areas. The museum will raffle off travel chess sets and extend its normal hours to 9 p.m., with reduced admission from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. If it rains, the movie will move indoors to the building's third floor.

Jazzy Summer Nights

The music will be as hot as the weather at the Jazzy Summer Nights free outdoor festival tonight at 5 at 2 Hopkins Plaza.

The festival, which will run on the first Thursday of August and September, features headliner Rudy Faulkner, F.R.E.N.S., Wayna and Eric Roberson.

Kidmunity Parade and Festival

Saturday's Kidmunity Youth Day Parade & Festival in the 1200 block of N. Chester St. will feature health screenings and bands. The Collington Square Coalition organized the event to prevent youth drug use in the community. Kids will run a "youth entrepreneur village" providing food and games. Proceeds go to various youth and church groups. Police Commissioner Leonard Hamm will lead the Refuse 2 Use Parade at 10 a.m.
