A former state Department of Juvenile Justice employee was charged yesterday with stealing money by using her state-issued credit card for personal purposes, authorities said.

A Baltimore grand jury indicted Monique Barnette Green, 38, of the 3000 block of Arbor Hill Court in Abingdon on one count of felony theft and one count of fraudulent misappropriation, according to the Maryland attorney general's office.

Prosecutors allege that between March 22, 2001, and May 16, 2001, Green used a state credit card to convert $11,511.98 into money she spent on personal expenses.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
