Thoughts on issues relating to Harford County

July 03, 2005

ISSUE: On Tuesday night, the County Council will vote to pick a new county executive from a field of six candidates who requested being considered to replace James M. Harkins, who departed last week to join the Ehrlich administration, 16 months before his term expires.

The vote comes at a critical time for the county of 233,000 residents, which led the state in job growth last year.

Some in county political circles believe the next year will be crucial in shaping the direction of the county.

QUESTION: What should the first order of business be for the new county executive? What are the most important issues facing the new executive? Should the next leader of Harford take the county in a different direction?
