Prepare for Success, Howard County's backpack and school-supplies drive, is accepting donations.

Drop-off boxes to collect backpacks and school supplies for Howard County children in need are available in county government office buildings, libraries, Columbia village centers, Columbia Association sites, the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, British American Auto Care, the Body Factory, Play Wise Kids, Magellan Health Services, Champs in Columbia and the Long and Foster office in Clarksville.

The campaign will run through Aug. 9. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 10, 11 and 12 to help organize and stuff backpacks for delivery to schools. This year's goal is 2,000 backpacks.

Needed are backpacks; 2-inch, three-hole vinyl binders; eight- and 24-pack boxes of crayons; highlighters; zipper pouches; subject dividers; composition books; three-hole lined paper; erasable pens; No. 2 pencils; spiral notebooks (single subject); pink erasers; glue sticks; blunt scissors; red pens; folders; pencil boxes; and 12-inch rulers.
