Officials urge conservation of water in southern section

Recent increases in water use in South Carroll have officials urging voluntary conservation in the county's most populous area.

Daily usage Sunday hit 3 million gallons, the maximum capacity of the county's water treatment plant. Demand reached near capacity on several other days during the recent hot spell.

The water supply is adequate, but the 30-year-old plant, which is set to undergo major renovations, cannot operate at full capacity for prolonged periods, officials said.
