Towson first baseman Jason Maxey (Hammond), a second team All-American selection, has signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Orioles organization and will be part of the Aberdeen Ironbirds of the New York-Penn League, the Orioles' Class A affiliate.

Maxey is the third former Tiger to play for the Ironbirds, joining Gregg Davies and Mike Costello.

Maxey batted .346 with 23 home runs and 72 RBI this past season. A first team All-CAA selection, he led the CAA in home runs (23). Maxey also led the Tigers with 18 doubles.

Maxey led the CAA with a .756 slugging percentage, which ranked him third in Division I.

Maxey is one of three former Tigers who will play professionally this summer. Outfielder-pitcher Casper Wells was drafted in the 14th round by the Detroit Tigers and infielder Shane Justis (Bel Air) was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 21st round.
