Blue Jays update

One of the season's early surprises, the Blue Jays have managed to hang around in the American League East. They are in fourth place, 2 1/2 games out of third place and 7 1/2 behind the first-place Orioles. The Orioles are 4-2 against the Blue Jays, including a three-game sweep in Toronto in April in which they outscored them 24-7. A 4-1 victory in the series' middle game put the Orioles in first place, and they've remained there. After a slow start, outfielder Vernon Wells has picked it up at the plate and leads Toronto with 13 home runs and 33 RBIs. He has hits in 10 of his past 13 games, batting .326 (15-for-46) during that stretch. Shea Hillenbrand led the American League in hitting earlier this season, but his average has dropped to .309. Halladay is likely headed to the All-Star Game, but he is 0-2 against the Orioles this season, giving up 21 hits and 11 earned runs in 13 1/3 innings.
