The superintendent of Anne Arundel County schools will earn more than $211,100 during the next fiscal year as a result of school board action last week.

Board members approved 3 percent cost-of-living raises for professional support, senior and executive staff employees. That includes Superintendent Eric J. Smith.

Other employee groups represented by unions also received 3 percent raises, except for teachers, who received 4 percent increases.

Smith, recruited from his post as superintendent of the Charlotte, N.C., school system three years ago, is being paid $204,939 for the fiscal year that ends June 30.
