Chamber plans breakfast, energy-co-op session

The Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce has announced the following activities.

Thursday: Power networking breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Sheraton/College Park, 4095 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville. The cost is $20 in advance and $30 at the door. A literature table, presentations and door prizes will be included.

Thursday: Energy co-op information session from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the chamber office, 312 Marshall Ave., Suite 104, Laurel. A second electric cooperative and a gas cooperative are being added. Entities with commercial electric or gas accounts are welcome. Free.

Thursday: A Business Networking Mixer will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Central Parke at Victoria Falls, 7213 Contee Road, Laurel. Door prizes and a literature table will be available. For directions only, call 301-483-6383. The cost is $12 in advance and $22 at the door.

Boat, walking tours planned around area

Annapolis Tours & Watermark Cruises has announced 2005 events.

90-minute boat tours Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 5. Times and locations vary. Tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children 3 to 11.

Spa Creek tours are held Monday, Friday and weekends until Sept. 5, and Sept. 6 and Oct. 2. Call for times.

Walking tours are held daily through Oct. 3 at the 26 West St. visitor center. A Walk With the Colonials is two hours and costs $11 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 11. Call for times and dates.

Special events, holiday and theme cruises are offered throughout the season. Call for details.

Billy Baye's Pirates of the Chesapeake is held at 10:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through Sept. 5, and Fridays from June 24 through Sept. 2. This one-hour cruise entertains with stories, games and music of pirates. Tickets are $13 for adults, $8 for children 3 to 11, and free for younger than age 2.

Three Lighthouse Cruise is held at 12:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 4. A lighthouse keeper will narrate the cruise as it passes by three lighthouses on the bay. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children ages 3 to 11 and free for ages 2 and younger.

Day on the Bay Cruise to St. Michael's is held from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 24. Travelers will have time for lunch, shopping and sightseeing. Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for children to age 11.

2 more buildings finished at Quarterfield Center

MIE Properties of Baltimore has completed construction of the fourth and fifth buildings at Quarterfield Center, an $18 million development at Route 174 (Quarterfield Road) and Interstate 97 in Glen Burnie.

MIE is developing the site with Grasmick Lumber as a six-building campus with 187,000 square feet of office and retail space.

Quarterfield Center's first office properties house tenants including World Gym, Nationwide Mutual Insurance, Long and Foster, Partnership Development Group, doctors' offices and Independent Dialysis Foundation.

The fourth property is a restaurant and service building where Subway has leased 1,200 square feet.

Building Five is an office building where Earnest and Associates Inc., a computer software company, has leased 7,650 square feet.

Vansant Creations CEO honored as entrepreneur

Amy Vansant, chief executive officer of the Annapolis-based Web development firm Vansant Creations, has been awarded a SmartWoman Magazine Bravo Entrepreneur Award.

The award acknowledges female-owned businesses throughout the region.

Vansant Creations specializes in interactive media development, maintenance and search engine optimization.
