Boys Player of the Year

Mike March, Century

The senior fared well in a couple of spots for the county champions.

March had a perfect regular season at No. 1 singles for Century before moving to mixed doubles for the postseason. He combined with Sara Hamilton to win the championship.

March and Hamilton then finished third in the regionals.

Girls Players of the Year

Melissa Wallace and Alissa Thayer, Westminster

The seniors finished 22-3 and won the school's first state championship in tennis.

They knocked off three of the state's top four seeded teams at the state meet.

Coach Fran McCullin was even more impressed because they had suffered tough losses in both the county and regional finals to South Carroll's Stephanie Scurcu and Sara Weisse.

Coach of the Year

Stephen Speck, Century

Speck led the Knights to their first county boys title, using a good group of players that has been developing over the past few years.

Players like Neil Tucker and Mike March, who could play singles and doubles, and the doubles team of Stephen Romeo and Joe Batista gave the Knights a strong group.
