Performer of the Year

Theresa Lewis, Western

Lewis, who was the Performer of the Year in indoor track this past winter, did not drop a single competition in the 100 high hurdles this spring.

At the city championships, the junior claimed the 100 high hurdles (14.10 seconds), the 300 intermediate hurdles (44.72) and shot put (30 feet, 7 inches), setting records in both hurdles events.

After taking the 100 high hurdles (13.0) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (44.2) at the Class 3A North regional meet, Lewis completed the sweep by winning the 100 high hurdles (13.76) and 300 intermediate hurdles (43.75) at the state championships.

Coach of the Year

Jerry Molyneaux, Western

The Doves' run to a state crown was nearly derailed by Fallston's surge at the Class 3A North regional meet. But Molyneaux used that setback to motivate Western, which responded by capturing the Class 3A state championship.

Not only did the Doves win their first state title since 2002, but they also grabbed their 16th consecutive city crown.
