On May 28, 2005, VIVIAN IRENE CORD of Cockeysville died at Broadmead, a retirement community in Cockeysville. She was 90. Born in Baltimore City, she was the daughter of the late Leona Godwin and George Thomas Cord. Known as "Viv" or "Vic" by her close friends, she was a retired teacher and administrator for the Baltimore City school system. She received bachelor of science and master of education degrees from Johns Hopkins University and went on to become an elementary school teacher. She later became a supervisor, principal, area director of elementary education finally administrative assistant to the regional superintendent. She also taught courses in elementary education administration and supervision at Goucher and Loyola colleges and Towson and Johns Hopkins Universities. Family members said she was an active, vibrant, popular resident of Broadmead, a driving force in the biannual barn sale, planned bus trips and directed and performed in Broadmead production. An avid bridge player, she also learned to play golf in her 80s. She kept the books for GBMC's gift shop without the aid of a computer and was a well-known figure at the hospital, being a 14 year cancer survivor. Ms. Cord is survived by a sister, Dorothy Cord Morgan and her husband, C. Curtis-Morgan, of Towson, formerly of Aberdeen; a brother, George T. Cord of Baltimore; nieces, Nancy Morgan Burlin and her husband, Don, of Bel Air and Linda Morgan Lemmon and her husband, Bob, of Bel Air; great-nieces, Laura Paige Lemmon Martin of North East, Pamela Lemmon Johnson of Hunt Valley and Sandra Cord Ferrell of Bernville, PA, and Wellington, FL; great-nephews, Kent R. Ferrell of Aberdeen, Kevin Morgan Ferrell of Bel Air and Charles Mark Ferrell of Churchville. In addition to her parents, Ms. Cord was predeceased by her beloved stepmother, Nadia Cord, and her sister-in-law, Loretta Guttberlet Cord. A Memorial Service will be June 24 at 2 P.M. at Broadmead.
