Utility cable failure causes power outage

June 08, 2005|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

An underground utility cable failure resulted in loss of power to about 270 customers in the area around The Mall in Columbia, according to a Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. spokeswoman.

Power went out about 10:45 a.m. and was restored just before 12:30 p.m., said Linda Foy, a company spokeswoman. As of yesterday afternoon, it was not immediately known what caused the cable failure.

The Mall in Columbia lost power for about two minutes, and nothing was damaged in the outage, said Asa Williams, marketing manager for the mall.

About 4,000 customers reported a power loss at the height of Monday night's storm. Foy said Monday's outages appeared not to be connected with yesterday's.
