Japanese flower-arranging session set

The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will offer "Ikebana: The Way of the Flower," a program on Japanese flower arranging with Tressa Williams of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, at 7 p.m. June 15.

The program is limited to 15 participants. Registration is encouraged.

"Be A Super Babysitter," for youth ages 11 to 15, will be offered from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 20 and 21. Hope Jackson of the Howard County Cooperative Extension will talk about safety, first aid, beating the bedtime blues and other topics.

Participants must attend both sessions to receive a certificate. Registration is to begin tomorrow at the central library.

"Tips for the Entrepreneur," with Richard Lowery, professor of management and small business at Bowie State University, will be held at 7 p.m. June 22. He will discuss dealing with demographics, technology, competition and the economy. Registration, which is encouraged, is to begin Wednesday.

Around Town

Nursery school: Longfellow Cooperative Nursery School has spaces available for 3-year-olds in its fall program. Hours are 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. 410-964-2490.

Parents and tots: Town Center Community Association is accepting registration for the summer session of Parents and Tots Playgroups. Sessions begin next week. The groups are limited to about 15 children. Juice will be provided. The groups, for children ages 24 months and older, 6 to 24 months and 6 months to 4 years, meet at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road. Draw, paint: Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor You Can Draw and Paint classes for those ages 55 and older at Cedar Lane Recreation Center, 5081 Cedar Lane, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. June 14 through Aug. 16; and at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 16 through Aug. 18. Participants should take watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels or whatever materials they have on hand. Beginners and experienced hobbyists are welcome. The cost is $55 at Cedar Lane; $44 at the Bain Center. Registration is due as soon as possible. A wire-jewelry class for seniors will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 14 at the Bain center. Play group: The Parent Resource Place, a program of Jewish Family Services in Howard County, will offer "Share and Compare," an informal drop-in play group and parent workshop from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of each month. Arts camps: Slayton House Camp of the Arts is accepting registration for ages 7 to 13. A junior conservatory for ages 11 to 13 and a senior conservatory for ages 14 to 16 are among the offerings. Classes will culminate in a production. Two three-week sessions and a two-week session will be offered weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 20 through Aug. 12.
