Oakland Mills slates town meeting

The Oakland Mills Community Association will hold a town meeting on the village's revitalization projects and plans for a new restaurant for the village center. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 13 at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place.

Rep. Elijah E. Cummings will speak, and representatives from the office of Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin and other officials from state and Howard County government and the Board of Education will be on hand.

The Oakland Mills Community Association has been awarded a grant by the Columbia Foundation to promote communication and revitalization initiatives.

Planned are a newsletter; an updated interactive Web site; translation services for non-English speaking residents; and a street captain program.

Dance: Ballet with Cindee Velle, the resident dance school of the Long Reach Community Association, will present a two-act original production, The Global Express, a medley of dance from around the world, at 7 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at Smith Theatre, Howard Community College, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway. Tickets, available at Stonehouse, 8775 Cloudleap Court, are $10-$12. An eight-week session of Ballet with Cindee Velle, for ages 3 to adult, is to begin June 13 at Stonehouse. Summer reading: The east Columbia library will throw a party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to kick off its summer reading program, "Wild About Reading!" Visitors can register, see shows and strolling entertainers and purchase refreshments. 410-313-7700.
