Glen Burnie man charged with attempted rape

Anne Arundel County police have arrested a Glen Burnie man and charged him with attempting to rape an 18-year-old woman Wednesday night, police said.

Kevin Andre Chew, 41, was charged with attempted first-and second-degree rape, and first-and second-degree assault in the incident in the 3000 block of Patuxent River Road in Davidsonville, police said.

Police said officers were approached by a woman who said she had been attacked by someone she knew but had struggled with him briefly and fended him off.

State panel approves zoning, subdivision rules

A state commission has approved new zoning and subdivision regulations for Anne Arundel County.

On Wednesday, the Maryland Critical Area Commission for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays voted unanimously to approve the code passed in March by the County Council.

The new code excludes certain land features, such as steep slopes and tidal and nontidal wetlands, from net density calculations; requires that 30 percent of a development be maintained as open space in a contiguous parcel; and prohibits intrafamily subdivisions of land within critical areas.

"The commission's decision is a significant milestone in the implementation of these new laws," said Joe Rutter, the county's planning director.

The changes went into effect May 12. To obtain a copy, visit http://www.aacounty.org/CountyCode/index.cfm or write Office of Planning and Zoning, Research and GIS Division, 4th Floor, 2664 Riva Road, Annapolis 21401. The cost ranges from $5 to $10.
