Model Air Show

Contestants from all over the Northeast are heading out to the R/C Model Air Show's Tournament of Champions Saturday. More than 30 pilots compete in such categories as Known, Unknown and Freestyle Flying. The flying begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and runs till sundown. Food is available from the event's sponsors, and raffles will be held.

The R/C Model Air Show is at Southwest Area Park off Annapolis Road in Baltimore Highlands. Admission is free for spectators. For more information, call 410-925-6306

Charles Village Festival

The annual Charles Village Festival celebrates urban family fun this weekend. Events start Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with a 5K adult run with a 1K kids' fun run at 9 a.m. Other activities include a garden walk and a parade. Food, crafts, beer and wine will be sold Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bands will rotate from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, including local punk outfit All Time Low and jazz band The Todd Butler Group.

Demolition Derby

The fifth annual Anne Arundel Demolition Derby takes place Saturday, when local drivers will duke it out at the fairgrounds. Four qualifying events pit car against car to make it to the grand championship at the end of the day. While watching this motorized mayhem, attendees can enjoy fairground favorites as hot dogs, funnel cakes, snowballs and cheese steaks.

The action takes place at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds at 1450 General's Highway, Crownsville. Gates open at 4 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for 13 and older, $5 for ages 6-12 and free for kids under 5.
