SEATTLE - Player-coach Gary Gait scored four goals to lead the Bayhawks to a season-opening 21-12 victory over the New Jersey Pride in a Major League Lacrosse game Saturday night at Qwest Field.

It was the Bayhawks' ninth straight win over the Pride (1-1).

The game was played in Seattle as a part of the league's Wild West Tour, introducing the pro game to potential expansion cities for the 2006 season.

Attackman Mike Powell, making his MLL debut, scored twice and added three assists for the Bayhawks. Powell, the No. 1 overall selection in last summer's collegiate draft out of Syracuse, took the 2004 season off for personal reasons.

"Obviously, he is an excellent talent and a guy who will be one of the best in this league for a long time," said Pride coach Ted Georgalas. "He played well tonight."

The teams will meet again Sunday at 4 p.m. at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium in the Bayhawks' home opener.
