The Columbia Association's board of directors has elected Joshua Feldmark of Wilde Lake as chairman of the Columbia Council and Tom O'Connor of Dorsey's Search as vice chairman.
The officers were sworn in last week during a meeting of the board at Columbia Association headquarters.
Parent-Tot Playgroup registration under way
Town Center Community Association is accepting registration for the summer session of Parents and Tots Playgroups.
Sessions begin the week of June 13. The groups are limited to about 15 children to facilitate play. Juice will be provided.
The groups, for children ages 24 months and older, 6 to 24 months, and 6 months to 4 years, meet at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road.
The cost is $25 for 10 weeks for Columbia residents; $27.50 for nonresidents. Second children pay half-price.

Drawing-painting classes for seniors being offered
Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor You Can Draw and Paint classes, for seniors, ages 55 and older, at Cedar Lane Recreation Center, 5081 Cedar Lane, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. June 14 through Aug. 16; and at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 16 through Aug. 18.
Participants should bring watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels - or whatever materials they have on hand. The instructor will provide direction. Beginners and experienced hobbyists are welcome.
The cost is $55 at Cedar Lane; $44 at the Bain Center. Registration is due as soon as possible.
A wire-jewelry class for seniors will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 14 at the Bain center. Participants will learn to make wire jewelry using simple tools, wire and beads.
The cost is $29. Registration is required.
Fencing classes set to begin at Slayton House next week
Fencing classes for youngsters ages 7 and older and adults are to start next week at Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center.
Beginners Squires (ages 7 to 12) meet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Mondays; intermediate Squires (ages 7 to 12, for current students only) meet from 7:20 p.m. to 8:05 p.m. Advanced Squires meet from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays.
Adult beginners, ages 13 and older, meet from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays. Intermediate and advanced classes are also available.
The cost is $60-$72 for 10 classes. Equipment will be provided, but students must purchase their own personal protection devices. The cost is $10 for men; $18 for women.

Longfellow Cooperative Nursery School has spaces available for 3-year-olds in its fall program.
