DWhite Sox update
The White Sox were cooled off slightly by the Devil Rays, losing two of three games at Tropicana Field. But Chicago still owns the best record in baseball at 25-9 - the Orioles have the second-best at 22-11 - and has won nine of its past 11 games. With their hot start, the White Sox tied the 1951, 1919 and 1901 clubs for the best start in franchise history. However, the biggest testament to their dominance is that the White Sox have led in all 34 games this season, setting a major league record previously held by the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. White Sox starting pitchers entered yesterday's 5-2 win over the Devil Rays at 19-4 with a 3.13 ERA. Chicago's starters lead the AL in wins, ERA, innings pitched, opponents average (.235), shutouts and quality starts. Paul Konerko leads Chicago with nine home runs, while Scott Podsednik is first in the AL with 17 steals.
