Mt. Hebron boys stop Glenelg in OT

Mount Hebron kept alive its Howard County boys lacrosse championship hopes with a 4-3 overtime victory over visiting Glenelg yesterday.

Sophomore Justin Martinelli scored the game-winning goal 36 seconds into overtime, his second goal of the game.

"It was a magical ending," said Martinelli. "I told myself I was going straight for it."

Andrew Aleshire of Mount Hebron (7-4 overall, 6-1 Howard County) tied the score at 3 on a goal with 2.9 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Vikings, who had lost the last two seasons to Glenelg (9-3, 5-3), now trail Centennial (8-1, 6-0) by half a game.

No. 11 Severn 11, Archbishop Spalding 5: Duke Gibbons scored all three of his goals in the second half to lead the Admirals (6-9) over the Cavaliers (4-11).

Girls

No. 1 Mount Hebron 16, Glenelg 4: Megan Bosica scored six goals and set up another to power the Vikings (11-0) past the host Gladiators (9-2).

The win was Mount Hebron's 71st straight.
