The fourth-seeded Tar Heels (13-4), with 19 players from 12 Baltimore-area high schools on their roster, scored the game's first nine goals against the Hokies (5-10).

Carolina advanced to face top-seeded Duke in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. today. Maryland and Virginia, seeded third and second, respectively, will play at 1 p.m. in the tournament's other semifinal.

Stephanie Scurachio (Mount Hebron), Jess Allen (Hereford) and Kelly Renzi (Centennial) each scored twice and Christina Juras (McDonogh) had a goal and two assists for Carolina.
