`Women's Event' at Temple Isaiah to honor eight

The Jewish Federation of Howard County is accepting reservations for "The Women's Event," to be held at 6:30 p.m. June 7 at Temple Isaiah, 12200 Scaggsville Road, Fulton.

The celebration, which recognizes eight women in the Jewish community, will include hors d'oeuvres, dinner, dessert and music.

Honorees are Lynn Abram- son, Jeryl Baker, Brenda Fishbein, Lynn Green, Barbara Hurwitz, Jessi Jacobs, Naomi Rappaport and Suzanne Waller. Shoshana Cardin will speak.

Reservations are required by Sunday. Tickets are $54. Patrons pay $180 and supporters pay $108.

Church sets seminar for separated, divorced

Chapelgate Presbyterian Church in Marriottsville will offer "Fresh Start," a seminar for people who are separated or divorced, May 6-7.

An accompanying seminar for children (ages 6 to 16) of separated, divorced or widowed parents, "Fresh Start for Kids," will be held at the same time.

The cost is $55 for adults, $30 for alumni and $15 for children and youth.

Interfaith breakfast slated tomorrow in Clarksville

The women's ministry of St. John Baptist Church will hold an interfaith breakfast at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow at Ten Oaks Ballroom, 5000 Signal Bell Lane, Clarksville.

The theme of the breakfast is "Many Minds, One Spirit."

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie will be the keynote speaker. She will be introduced by Kweisi Mfume, former head of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Maryland's Paul S. Sarbanes.

St. John's hopes to get participation from all denominations, as well as organizations and individuals.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at the church.

West Friendship church's Spring Sale is tomorrow

St. James United Methodist Church in West Friendship will hold a Spring Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the church.

Spaces are available for a yard sale; a sub sale will benefit Camp Hope, a mission project for the church's youth. A bake table and a flower sale of potted plants and hanging baskets are also planned.

Classes to teach families about virtues, happiness

Baha'is of Howard County will offer an interactive seminar for parents, "Using Virtues to Create Happy Families," from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and May 7 at Stevens Forest Neighborhood Center, 6061 Stevens Forest Road, Columbia.

Parents are invited to bring children, who can attend a children's class about virtues such as kindness, compassion and honesty.

The theme for Journeys Community's 10 a.m. Sunday service will be "Surrender."

Gan Israel Day Camp to run June 27-July 22

Gan Israel Day Camp in Columbia will offer sports, swimming, crafts, music, trips and activities emphasizing Jewish traditions and history for boys, ages 2 to 8, and girls, ages 2 to 12.

Camp will run from June 27 through July 22, and campers can attend one or more weeks. Part-day options are available for preschoolers.

Coffeehouse to present Sinatra impersonator

The One World Coffeehouse of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia will present Sinatra impersonator Steve Flynn, or "Flynnatra," for an evening of Frank Sinatra favorites, at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.
