On April 25, 2005, VELMA M. MELOF passed away at home after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Easton Melof, her sister Mary Katherine De Bartolo of Chicago, IL, brothers Thomas Fortner of Oak Ridge, TN, and Harry Fortner of Dresden, TN. She is survived by her son, Don Melof (Mary) of Birmingham, her daughters Sandra Melof of Birmingham, and Cheryl Dyer (Mike) of Laurel, MD; four grandchildren Theresa Renee Melof of Hillsboro, Oregon, Bruce Allen Melof of Birmingham, Michael Patrick Dyer (Sadie) of Brooklyn, NY and Katharine Nahjla Dyer of Conschohocken, PA, many nieces and nephews and her caregivers Shirrell Moore and Charity Ross. We are especially grateful to her niece, Jacqueline Dicie, who served as her home health and hospice nurse. She belonged to St. George Melkite Catholic Church where she was a longtime member of the Azara Club. She was also a member of the Sunshine Garden Club in Crestwood and was hostess for many of their activities. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for St. Thomas on the Hill, St. Barnabas School and John Carroll Catholic High School. Visitation will be held at Johns-Ridout's, Southside on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 5 P.M. with the Wake Service at 7 P.M. The Funeral Service will be Friday, April 29 at 11 A.M. at St. George Melkite Catholic Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Father Frank Milienewicz, Father Deacon Saraphim Ritchey, and Father Ray Dunmyer officiating.
