Red Sox update

In the first two games of the series, the Orioles will get a chance to do what they couldn't do last week -- solve Wells and Clement. Wells shut out the Orioles and allowed only three hits through eight innings on Wednesday, a performance that was matched the next day by Clement. The right-hander also went eight innings, surrendering eight hits and no runs in a 1-0 Red Sox victory. Boston (11-8) had won seven of eight games to move into first place in the American League East, before losing the first two games against Tampa Bay on Friday and Saturday. Slugger David Ortiz hit two home runs Saturday, breaking out of a 6-for-43 slump. Leadoff man Johnny Damon has been the catalyst for the Red Sox, hitting safely in 15 of the past 17 games, including yesterday's series finale against the Devil Rays.
