Barnes, Jr., Robert Vernon "Buck"

On Wednesday, April 20, 2005, ROBERT "Buck" VERNON BARNES, JR., 87, of New Castle, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away at home. He was preceded in death by his father Robert V. Barnes, Sr.; mother Katherine A. Barnes and sister Ruth Thompson. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Jane Looney Barnes and daughter Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Lettshek and husband Daniel; nephews Billy Simpson, King Thompson and Bobby Thompson. He served as a US Marine and participated in action against the enemy on Gilbert Island and Okinawa. A WWII Veteran, he recuperated in a Naval Hospital on the Hawaiian Islands, due to shrapnel and explosion which caused damage to his eyes. He worked at Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Pt., MD for 29 years and also worked in the tile and marble business. He was a golf enthusiast and loved baseball, mainly the Orioles, painting, carpentry work, and stone work. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Huffman Memorial Park, New Castle with Rev. Lowell Stovall and Rev. Emory Tarpley officiating. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Paitsel Funeral Home Chapel, New Castle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Castle United Methodist Church, Craig Co. EMS, or New Castle Vol. Fire Dept., New Castle, VA. 24127.
