Mayer cancer center to recognize volunteers

The Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center will hold its third Victorian tea to honor about 30 volunteers and raise money for the center from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 2 at Turf Valley Resort and Conference Center in Ellicott City.

The tea, which will feature a fashion show and vendors selling jewelry and other accessories, includes scones, tea sandwiches and salads.

Tickets are $40. The center provides information - books, videos and pamphlets about cancer and Internet access for online research - and a salon where licensed aestheticians, cosmetologists, hairstylists and prosthesis providers offer free consultations.

Volunteer help is sought for Wine in the Woods fest

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is seeking people, ages 21 and older, to volunteer at the 13th Wine in the Woods Festival on May 14 and 15 at Symphony Woods in Columbia.

Volunteers who work a 3 1/2 -hour shift will receive an admission ticket for a day at the festival and a T-shirt.

An orientation for new volunteers will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 11 at recreation and parks headquarters.

Leadership program seeks applicants; deadline May 6

Leadership Howard County is accepting applications for its 2005-2006 community leadership program.

The program is designed to acquaint private and public sector leaders with education, culture, health services, economics, government and philanthropy in the county.

Candidates for the program, which costs $3,600, must have demonstrated leadership and be willing to become involved in enhancing quality of life in the county.

Completed applications must be returned by May 6.
